SDL AutoSuggest 2.0

Speed up manual translations with subsegment matching in SDL Trados Studio

How does AutoSuggest 2.0 work?

AutoSuggest 2.0 monitors what you are typing and, after you have typed the first few characters of a word it presents you with a list of suggested words or phrases in context and in your target language. If one of the words or phrases matches what you were about to type, you can automatically complete the word or phrase by selecting it from the list. As you continue to type, the list of suggested words is continuously updated.

Where do the AutoSuggest 2.0 suggestions come from?

The suggested words and phrases can be from the following sources:

  • Translation memories (TM) - AutoSuggest 2.0 dictionaries can be created by extracting words and phrases from your translation memory. Please note if you are using SDL Trados Studio Freelance you will need to purchase the AutoSuggest Creator add-on to do this.
  • Your own additions - you can manually add your own words or phrases to your AutoSuggest 2.0 dictionary.
  • An SDL MultiTerm termbase

New to SDL Trados Studio 2015 - you can now draw on suggestions of words and phrases from machine translations (as many as you like!) plus concordance and fuzzy match results coming directly from your translation memories.

There are also a number of AutoSuggest 2.0 dictionaries available for you to download on the next tab.

You must have at least one of the sources above to use AutoSuggest 2.0 and a minimum of 25,000 entries within the translation memory.

How do I create an AutoSuggest 2.0 dictionary?

If you are using SDL Trados Studio Freelance you need to purchase the AutoSuggest Creator add-on to create AutoSuggest 2.0 dictionaries. Review your order details to see if this was included in your purchase.

Once you have purchased the AutoSuggest Creator add-on you can follow the instructions here to create your own AutoSuggest 2.0 dictionary.

Please note: if you have purchased the SDL Trados Studio Professional version then you do not need to purchase the add-on to create AutoSuggest 2.0 dictionaries as this functionality is already included in this version of our software.

  • Cross-references – this is all about enabling user to reference websites as well as other entries in a termbase
  • Import/Export operations – this is all about exporting termbase data, for example to create Word dictionaries
  • Copying/Merging entries – this is about cloning entries, as well as merging entries, like duplicates etc.
  • Focus on filters – this is about limiting the amount of entries that are displayed based on user defined criteria
  • Focus on Security – this is about making functionality more secure, for example encrypting and time-bombing file-based termbases, or limiting which entries specific groups of users can see on a server termbase
